Youth Programs
Appalachian offers a variety of youth programs throughout the year. From the arts, to academics, to sports, we have something for everyone!
- AppalSEED Academy- a year-long after-school science program
- The Community Arts in Education Program- free performances by artists and school-based programs
- Community Music School- music instruction for children and adults
- 5th Dimension- after school program that focuses on telecommunications
- Scholars Weekend- held two weekends each year for academically gifted youth
- Theatre and Dance Workshops- a series of workshops for children and youth
- Community Art School- one day and multi-day art programs
- UREC Academy - seasonal sports clinics offered through University Recreation
- Sports Camps via Conferences & Institutes - a variety of sports held throughout the year, for all ages
Adult Programs
From workshops, to conferences, to topical interest communities, Appalachian hosts a wide array of non-credit programs for adults. Come join us to learn something new, sharpen your skills, and make new friends.
- The Institute for Senior Scholars- offers more than 100 year-round cultural, outdoor, and social programs.
- The Craft Enrichment Program- offers hands-on creative workshops for students and community members
- Community Art School- one day and multi-day art programs
Summer Camps
Learning doesn't stop in the summer, especially for area youth. ASU provides some of the best and most diverse camp experiences for children throughout the state. - Appalachian Pathways- summer day camps for youth ages 5-12
- Cannon Music Camp- focuses on choir, jazz, band, and much more
- Camp Broadstone- for academically gifted youth in grades 4-9
- Camp UREC- for youth to explore fitness, sports, and outdoor activities
- Forensic Science Camp- a hands-on, crime-solving camp
- Martha Guy Summer Institute- high school juniors develop a better understanding of business
- Sports Camps via Office of Conferences & Institutes - variety of sports, held throughout the year, for all ages
- Cre8tive Drama Day Camp - offered by the Department of Theater & Dance for ages 6 to 16
For-Credit Programs
Many adults enroll in classes for credit and continuing education at our main campus, as well as across the region. We are committed to helping you get connected and to grow our educational offerings.- The Office of Extension and Distance Education- promotes and develops off-campus graduate and undergraduate degree credit programs.
- The Appalachian Learning Alliance- provides degree-completion programs throughout 10 regional community college campuses in Western North Carlolina.
- The Admissions Office- provides information for returning adults, transfer, non-degree, and teacher certification students.
