The Visiting Writers Series brings dozens of authors of poetry, fiction and drama to campus each year to present public readings and discussions of the writer's craft. The Visiting Writers Series is named in honor of Hughlene Bostian Frank, class of 1968, trustee and generous supporter of Appalachian State University.

Most readings take place in the Plemmons Student Union with book signings and sales following. Upcoming speakers include John Hardy, Catherine Bush, Nancy Huddleston Packer, as well as many others.
